Zora is an onchain social app and coin protocol where memes, videos, art and podcasts become tradable coins. Creators launch a coin, other users trade it, and a share of each trade's fee goes back to the creator. Creator Coins are paired with the ZORA token, and as of 28 October 2026 Zora's Custom Pairs feature lets users create and trade coins on Solana, Base, Robinhood Chain, Ethereum and BNB Chain.
What is Zora?
Zora is a social app built around coins: memes, videos, art and podcasts can each be turned into a tradable coin. Zora's help centre describes the idea as combining social and open markets for the creator economy. Behind the app sits a coin protocol that developers can build on, and the developer docs offer a Coins SDK for creating experiences for creators and traders. The main site is zora.co.
How does Zora work?
Zora works by putting each coin in a trading pool and splitting a small fee from every trade between the people involved. According to the coin rewards documentation, on V4 coins a Uniswap hook runs at each swap, takes the fee, converts it to ZORA and sends it out. That logic lives in smart contracts, not in the app.
The docs name two coin types, Creator Coins and Content Coins. Both carry a 1% total fee on version 2.2.0 and later, down from 3% before that version. They differ in what they are paired with: a Content Coin is paired with a Creator Coin, and a Creator Coin is paired with ZORA.
The 1% fee is divided like this:
| Recipient | Share of the total fee |
|---|---|
| Creator | 50% |
| Platform referral | 20% |
| Trade referral | 4% |
| Doppler | 1% |
| Protocol | 5% |
| Liquidity rewards | 20% |
A platform referral is the reward for whoever brought the creator to Zora's contracts, and a trade referral is the reward for the platform behind one specific trade. Doppler and the Zora protocol each receive their cut into their own treasury. The 20% liquidity share is not paid to anyone; it stays in the pool for good as liquidity.
New coins also carry an early-launch fee, called a sniper tax. It starts at 99% and falls in a straight line to the coin's base fee, which is 1% for Creator and Content Coins, over 10 seconds. Zora's docs say its purpose is to discourage bots from buying the instant a coin launches.
What is the ZORA token used for?
In Zora's docs, ZORA is the currency that Creator Coins are paired with and the one in which trading rewards are paid. A fee earned on a Content Coin trade passes through the Creator Coin and ends up as ZORA, so every recipient is paid in ZORA whichever coin type generated it. On V4 coins this happens on each swap without any claim step.
The docs describe ZORA in these two roles. The help centre also lists a ZORA whitepaper written for the MiCAR framework, version 1.1, dated August 2025.
What is the Zora app?
The Zora app is where people post, discover and trade coins, on the web at zora.co and through its own app page. That page describes the app as a place to take positions on creators, topics, ideas, memes and moments.
The home feed shows trending tokens and posts, and the front page offers Trending, Top and New views. The front page also announces Custom Pairs, which lets users create and trade coins paired with memes, majors and stocks on Solana, Base, Robinhood Chain, Ethereum and BNB Chain.
How to use the Zora app
Using Zora starts with connecting a wallet or upgrading to the Zora wallet, then browsing the feed and choosing what to do. The usual path is:
- Open zora.co or the app page and choose Login or Sign up.
- Connect an external wallet, or upgrade to the Zora wallet, which the site asks for before use.
- Browse the feed under Trending, Top or New.
- Open a coin to read its page or buy it. Creators can turn a meme, video, art piece or podcast into a coin.
Zora's help centre has a Getting Started section for the detailed steps.
How do creators earn on Zora?
A creator receives 50% of the total fee on trades of their coin, paid to the payout address they choose at launch. Zora's help centre says creators earn every time their coin is traded and that users can get paid for what they create and what they discover.
Developers have a separate route: whoever brings a creator to Zora's contracts receives the platform referral share, and the platform behind a specific trade receives the trade referral share. The table above gives both percentages.
What does Zora publish about itself?
Zora publishes its fee schedule, its contract documentation and a ZORA whitepaper. The docs set out who receives each part of the 1% fee, the early-launch fee of up to 99% on new coins, and the coin pairings.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a Creator Coin and a Content Coin?
- Zora's docs name both types and give them the same 1% base trading fee and the same reward recipients. They differ in what they are paired with: Content Coins are paired with Creator Coins, and Creator Coins are paired with ZORA. Fees from a Content Coin trade are converted step by step into ZORA before payout.
Can developers earn rewards from Zora?
- Yes. Zora's docs set aside two developer rewards: one for whoever brings a creator to Zora's contracts, and one for the platform behind a particular trade. On version 2.2.0 and later they are 20% and 4% of the total fee.
Do Zora creators have to claim their rewards?
- For the latest V4 coins, no: each swap sends the creator's share straight to the payout address, with no claim step. The creator names that address at launch, and coin owners can update it. On V3 coins the rewards sit in escrow and can be withdrawn at any time.
Which chains does Zora support?
- Zora's front page announces Custom Pairs, which lets users create and trade coins paired with memes, majors and stocks on Solana, Base, Robinhood Chain, Ethereum and BNB Chain. As of 28 October 2026, that is the list of chains the app states for the feature.
Can you message people or use Autosell on Zora?
- Zora's help centre has an article on Messages, which lets users connect directly with creators and friends, and one on Autosell, described as turning every creator into a trader once enabled. Each feature has its own help article with the details.
