Base airdrops
Base is an Ethereum layer 2 rollup built by Coinbase that uses ETH for gas, and on 30 September 2026 it announced that Cobalt, its third upgrade, was live on mainnet. Base posts its transaction data to Ethereum, and sending a transaction works the same way as on Ethereum. To take part in a Base airdrop you need an address on Base holding a small amount of ETH to pay fees.

Base airdrops FAQ
What is Base?
- Base is a rollup built on Ethereum by Coinbase. Its sequencer orders transactions into blocks and posts the data to Ethereum, and validators can dispute invalid state through onchain proofs, and withdrawals to Ethereum finish only after a challenge period. Base's docs say transactions settle in under a second and cost less than one cent.
What do I need to join a Base airdrop?
- An address on Base with a small amount of ETH, because Base's docs say you need ETH on Base to pay for gas. Sending a transaction works the same as on Ethereum. To fund it, Base suggests withdrawing ETH or USDC from a Coinbase account on the Base network, or bridging from Ethereum, Solana or Bitcoin. A legitimate airdrop never asks for your seed phrase or private key.
What is ETH used for on Base?
- ETH pays for gas on Base: the docs describe users depositing ETH from Ethereum first and then, once they have ETH to pay fees, sending transactions on Base. Deposits arrive as special transactions at the start of a Base block. ETH and ERC-20 tokens can be withdrawn back to Ethereum, which completes on Ethereum after the challenge period.
