What is Citrea?

Citrea is a Bitcoin application layer that aims to give institutions and individuals access to Bitcoin capital markets. The project describes itself as a fully programmable platform secured by Bitcoin, using zero-knowledge technology and BitVM, and calls the applications built on it ₿apps.

The network is EVM-compatible through a zkEVM the project builds with RISC Zero, so developers who already write for Ethereum can deploy there. Two assets sit at its centre. cBTC is the project's trust-minimized form of Bitcoin, moved through the Clementine bridge, and ctUSD is a stablecoin the project says is backed by short-term U.S. Treasury bills and cash.

CTR is the reward paid in the cBTC Earn Vault campaign covered on this page.

How Citrea works

The cBTC Earn Vault lets cBTC holders earn a return on their BTC without swapping into a stablecoin. Clearstar Labs curates it. Its strategy uses the deposited cBTC as collateral in Citrea's Morpho ctUSD vault, takes out a ctUSD loan, and invests that ctUSD in assets that pay more than the loan costs. The vault is measured in cBTC, so profits made in dollars are swapped back into BTC.

At launch, the vault's return comes from two sources. Noon Capital receives an allocation of the vault deposits from Clearstar and runs looping strategies with its sUSN stablecoin, which gives the base yield. The other source is the CTR incentive.

CTR reaches vault depositors through Merkl and sits there apart from the vault position, so you collect it yourself. The announcement commits the incentive for the vault's first 6 months and says the size of the allocation moves with the vault's TVL. The Upshift page lists one APY covering the strategy and the CTR rewards together.

The announcement gives no total CTR amount for the campaign.

The CTR airdrop

The campaign pays CTR to people who hold a cBTC deposit in the Citrea cBTC Earn Vault. The tokens are paid out through Merkl, and the announcement gives no total amount. Deposits also earn the vault's base yield from Noon Capital's strategy, which is separate from the CTR incentive.

Step by step: how to get the CTR airdrop

Stay safe: a real airdrop never asks for your seed phrase or private key. Use only the official links on this page, and treat any message that offers help with a claim as a scam.

  1. Step 1: Get cBTC on Citrea

Bridge BTC into cBTC with the Citrea bridge. The mainnet post points new users to the Citrea Bridge Hub for their first cBTC.

  2. Step 2: Open the vault from the announcement

Read the cBTC Earn Vault announcement and follow its deposit link to the vault on the Upshift interface.

  3. Step 3: Deposit cBTC into the vault

Deposit your cBTC through the Upshift interface. The vault's strategy then runs on the deposits and the CTR incentive starts to accrue for participants.

  4. Step 4: Watch the combined APY

The Upshift page shows a combined APY for the strategy and the CTR rewards, which can move with the vault's TVL.

  5. Step 5: Claim CTR on Merkl

Use the Merkl page the announcement links to, and claim your CTR there by hand.
