What is Katana?
Katana is a DeFi-focused Ethereum layer started by Polygon Labs and GSR, running on Polygon's Agglayer. Its liquidity is routed through a handful of partner apps and protocols for spot swaps, lending and perps. Its app offers yield vaults run by curators such as yearn, Steakhouse Financial, Gauntlet and Clearstar, plus KAT staking, borrowing and a perps exchange.
The KAT token launched on 18 March 2026 and trades on Binance, OKX, KuCoin and Kraken, among other exchanges. The launch release says the token came without venture capital backing and without special unlock terms for insiders. That release says holders can stake KAT to receive vKAT, which carries voting rights over which DeFi pools receive protocol emissions, while the app's stake page shows KAT → avKAT.
How Katana works
Katana users put assets to work in several places inside one app. Vaults take deposits and spread them across strategies chosen by a curator, lenders supply assets to Morpho markets, borrowers take loans from the app's borrow markets, and traders open perpetual positions on a separate perps site. Bridged-in vbAssets are placed in a Morpho vault on Ethereum, and the app gives back a Vault Bridge token on Katana. The app notes extra risks and limits.
The campaign layered on top is a monthly season. The October 2026 season credits XP daily at 00:00 UTC. The homepage banner advertises up to 3 XP per dollar daily on earn vaults, but each vault lists its own rate on the Earn page, and some managed LP vaults list more, such as +15 XP per dollar on the USDC/KAT vault. Perps trades earn about 1.5 XP per dollar per trade and borrowing up to 1.5 XP per dollar daily, and the quests page lists 20 quests across 5 tracks. Every XP counts as an entry toward $10,000+ in season prizes, and 350K XP buys one Krate, each holding a reward with a chance to win 1,000 USDC. Leaderboard rankings refresh once a day.
Separately, Katana Perps runs its 13th trading competition from 28 October to 11 November 2026 with a $130K prize pool, and participants must opt in on the competition page.

The season pays XP, and every XP counts as an entry toward $10,000+ in season prizes. XP can also be spent at 350K per Krate, each holding a reward with a chance to win 1,000 USDC. Anyone who connects a wallet on the Katana app can earn XP through vault deposits, perps trades and borrowing. A separate perps competition pays vbUSDC prizes to ranked traders.

Step 1: Connect a wallet on the Quests page
Open the Katana quests page and connect a wallet to see your XP, rank and daily rate for the October 2026 season. The official rules are linked there.
Step 2: Deposit into an earn vault
Pick a vault on the Earn page, such as the USDC vault. Each vault lists its own XP rate.
Step 3: Trade perps or borrow for extra XP
Perps trades earn about 1.5 XP per dollar on the perps markets, and trading from the United States is blocked. Borrowing, for example USDC on the USDC market, earns up to 1.5 XP per dollar daily.
Step 4: Check your XP and open Krates
XP is credited daily at 00:00 UTC. Once you hold 350K XP, you can spend it on a Krate from the Krates tab, or keep it as an entry toward the season prizes.
Step 5: Opt in to the perps competition
If you also trade perps, opt in on the competition page before the round ends on 11 November 2026.
