What is Pi Network?
Pi Network is a cryptocurrency project that lets people mine its currency, Pi, on a mobile phone. Its homepage presents Pi as a currency that can be mined from a handset, and describes the app as energy-light, with mining that does not drain the battery. The project is run by the Pi Core Team.
Its whitepaper states the mission as building a platform for cryptocurrency and smart contracts that ordinary people secure and run. For consensus it picks the Stellar Consensus Protocol, chosen because it supports user-friendly, mobile-first mining rather than the heavy computing that Bitcoin's mining demands.
The whitepaper adds that both of its editions may be revised as the Enclosed Network period of Mainnet produces data.
How Pi Network works
Pi is mined from a phone app instead of specialised mining hardware. The whitepaper builds on the Stellar Consensus Protocol, which relies on Federated Byzantine Agreements to confirm that updates to the shared ledger are accurate, and it was picked so that mining could run on phones and personal computers without the energy cost of Bitcoin's mining.
Rewards come from the mining itself. A member who holds an invitation from an existing trusted member downloads the mobile app and starts mining Pi, and the homepage states that mining is free.
Pi Network has not announced seasons, points, tasks, a snapshot or a claim step, and it gives no mining rate, reward amount, ticker or launch date.
The Pi airdrop
The campaign pays Pi, the project's own cryptocurrency, to members who mine it from the mobile app. Mining is free, and the one requirement the homepage names is an invitation from an existing trusted member. Pi Network has not announced an amount, a snapshot, a claim date or a ticker.
Step by step: how to get the Pi airdrop
Stay safe: a real airdrop never asks for your seed phrase or private key. Use only the official links on this page, and treat any message that offers help with a claim as a scam.
Step 1: Get an invitation from a member
Ask an existing trusted member of Pi Network to invite you. The homepage names an invitation as the only thing mining requires.
Step 2: Download the Pi mobile app
Once you have an invitation, install the app from Google Play. The project's homepage at minepi.com also links the download.
Step 3: Start mining Pi
Open the app and begin mining Pi. The project says mining is free and that it works on your phone without draining the battery.
Step 4: Read the whitepaper
Read the Pi whitepaper for the mining and token model. The project says its chapters may change as data comes in.
