What is Pyth Network?
Pyth Network is a market data provider that publishes prices for crypto, equities, FX and commodities, aimed at institutions, applications and AI systems. Its homepage describes the goal as giving them the widest array of market data at the lowest cost.
The product suite on its homepage lists Pyth Pro, Pyth Indices and a Data Marketplace. Pyth Terminal is described as the front door to the market data, where teams explore price feeds, compare plans and manage API keys.
Pyth Pro takes its price data directly from first-party publishers, and subscribers can set which feeds they receive and how often they update.
How Pyth Network works
Pyth Network works by collecting price data from first-party publishers and delivering it to subscribers through standard APIs. Subscribers to Pyth Pro choose their price feeds and update schedules, and the developer docs show how to stream prices over a WebSocket connection and how to use the prices in smart contracts on several blockchains.
The Retrospective Airdrop rewarded earlier use of that data. Its first phase distributed PYTH tokens to DeFi participants who had interacted with Pyth-powered applications, across EVM, Cosmos, Move and Solana ecosystems, and to active members of the Pythian community. Claimants ticked the ecosystems they had been active in, plus a Discord box if relevant, then connected a wallet for each one.
The claim page showed the amount for each connected wallet or account. Signing each wallet and then a final Solana transaction sent the tokens to the claimant's Solana wallet, with the gas funded for them.
Phase 2 sent PYTH tokens to more than 160 decentralized applications that rely on Pyth price data.
The PYTH airdrop
The Retrospective Airdrop paid PYTH tokens. Phase 1 covered over 90,000 wallets across 27 chains: DeFi users of Pyth-powered apps and active Pythian community members, who picked their ecosystems, connected wallets and signed a claim, with tokens landing in a Solana wallet. Phase 2 covered more than 160 dApps using Pyth data. The claim window closed on 20 February 2024.
Step by step: how to get the PYTH airdrop
Kept for reference: this is how the campaign worked while it ran.
Stay safe: a real airdrop never asks for your seed phrase or private key. Use only the official links on this page, and treat any message that offers help with a claim as a scam.
Step 1: Check eligibility on the claim page
Phase 1 began on a dedicated claim site, where you picked the blockchain ecosystems you had been active in and ticked the Discord box if you were an active member of the Pyth Discord. The claiming guide walks through each screen.
Step 2: Connect a wallet for each ecosystem
You connected a wallet for every ecosystem you selected, and logged in to Discord if you chose that option. The page then showed how many tokens each wallet or account was eligible for.
Step 3: Log in with a Solana wallet
Claimed PYTH went to a Solana wallet, either one you had already connected or a new one the claim page helped you create. You did not need SOL in it to receive the allocation.
Step 4: Sign each wallet and confirm
You clicked sign for each connected wallet and confirmed in the wallet pop-up, then proceeded and signed a final transaction in your Solana wallet. The gas for the claim was funded for you, and the step could not be reversed once you proceeded.
Step 5: Read the phase 2 details if you run a dApp
Phase 2 covered more than 160 decentralized applications that use Pyth data. The phase 2 announcement lists how those teams qualified.
