What is Acurast?
Acurast is a compute network that runs on smartphones rather than in data centers. Each phone's built-in secure hardware, a Trusted Execution Environment, keeps code confidential and lets the results be checked.
Developers send serverless workloads to the phones, such as APIs, webhooks, scheduled jobs and language-model inference. People who run the Acurast Processor app on a phone are called Compute Providers and are paid in ACU. According to the project's documentation, what sets Acurast apart from other DePIN networks is that it proves deployed code ran unmodified on genuine hardware.
ACU is the network's token. The documentation lists its uses as paying for compute, rewarding Compute Providers, securing the network through staking and governance rights.
How Acurast works
A developer deploys a workload, a phone registered as a processor runs it inside its Trusted Execution Environment, and the provider earns ACU for the work. Developers can access the network with ACU or USDC.
The Cloud Rebellion is the project's quest platform. It ran in several seasons, each with its own quests, and members collected MIST points by completing them, deploying apps to the decentralized cloud, onboarding a phone as a Processor or referring friends. The Acurast Association then set aside 10,000,000 ACU for members, divided in proportion to total MIST across all seasons, with the snapshot taken just before the token launch on 20 January 2026.
Claims were made in the Acurast Hub through an airdrop checker and claimer that opened on 27 January 2026, with the window announced to close on 27 February 2026. Claiming required ACU to cover gas fees, and the airdropped tokens vest linearly over 24 months.
As of 27 October 2026 the Hub reports the claims as ended and points visitors to the project's social channels for other chances to get ACU. Acurast has not announced a new airdrop round.
The ACU airdrop
The Cloud Rebellion Airdrop set aside 10,000,000 ACU tokens for Cloud Rebellion members, split in proportion to the MIST points each had accumulated across all seasons. Members signed up, completed quests and then claimed in the Acurast Hub, with the tokens vesting linearly over 24 months. As of 27 October 2026, claims have ended.
