ETH
Ethereum airdrops
Ethereum is an open, public blockchain launched in July 2015 by Vitalik Buterin and a small team of co-founders; it moved from proof of work to proof of stake in 2022, and its native currency, ether (ETH), is the only accepted payment for transaction fees. Joining an airdrop on Ethereum means using a wallet, the app or device that holds your account's keys, with a little ETH in it to pay gas.

Ethereum airdrops FAQ
What is Ethereum?
- Ethereum is a decentralized blockchain and software platform, powered by ether (ETH), where open-source programs called smart contracts let anyone create digital assets and apps. Vitalik Buterin proposed it in a 2013 white paper and it launched in July 2015. Since 2022 it has run on proof of stake, where validators lock ETH to process transactions and earn ETH as a reward.
Which wallet do I need for Ethereum airdrops?
- An Ethereum wallet: an app or device that holds your account's keys and lets you sign in to apps and send transactions. ethereum.org lists hardware wallets, mobile apps, browser and browser extension wallets, and desktop apps, and most work with many chains. Write your recovery phrase down and keep it off your computer: a legitimate airdrop never asks for your seed phrase or private key.
What is the ETH token used for?
- Ether (ETH) is the only accepted payment for transaction fees on Ethereum, and since The Merge validators need it to propose and validate blocks. It is also used as collateral in DeFi lending and as a unit of account in NFT marketplaces. The base fee of every transaction is burned, while new ETH is issued to reward validators.
