What is Solana Name Service?
Solana Name Service is a domain naming system on Solana. A .sol name stands in for a wallet address and can also point to other on-chain data, such as images, text or IPFS content identifiers. The project says this spares users from handling long alphanumeric addresses and makes payments more efficient.
Its developer docs call the names fully on-chain, so they are built to withstand takedowns by central authorities. Through Sol.site, an eligible .sol domain also receives a standard .sol.site web subdomain that can host web content and configure email servers.
How Solana Name Service works
Developers add .sol domain resolution to their dApps through the SDKs and API that SNS publishes, and the project keeps developer documentation for each. Owners of an eligible domain can also use Sol.site to get a .sol.site subdomain.
The SNS token has a total supply of 10 billion, and 40% of it is allocated to airdrops. The airdrop site splits the distribution into three rounds. Airdrop #1, Early Supporters, let eligible community members enter an address to see their token reward, and it now shows Claim Closed. Airdrop #2, the LFG Campaign, offered a share of 20% of the total supply to people who engaged with SNS platforms, and it now shows Ended.
Airdrop #3, Community Reward, is marked TBD and lists 20% of the total supply. SNS gives no date for it and says additional community distribution events will be announced.
The SNS airdrop
Airdrop #1 (Early Supporters) and Airdrop #2 (LFG Campaign) paid SNS tokens, and both are over as of 27 October 2026. Early supporters entered an address on the airdrop site to see a reward, while LFG participants engaged with SNS platforms to earn a share of 20% of the total supply. Airdrop #3 is marked TBD with 20% of total supply listed and no date given.
